TRAINING ON PROMOTION OF TAMANG ARTS

Overview

The Skill development training program focused on the “Promotion of Tamang Tribal Arts”, which includes Thangka Painting, Wood carving, and crafting of Traditional Instruments with Costumes. This training was specifically designed for Lepcha beneficiaries in Sikkim.

The training scheme was initiated by the Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Sikkim, with support from the Tribal Research Institute under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India. The training was organized by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the State Institute of Capacity Building and Skill Development Department. The financial sponsorship for this training was provided by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India.

TRAINING DETAILS

The training was associated with the “Technology & Service Enterprises” and was classified under the Textile & Handicrafts Sector Skill Council (THSSC). The training encompassed various job roles, including Wood Polisher, Textile Designer Handloom, and Jacquard Weaving Handloom.

The training spanned 840 hours and had an intake capacity of 52 trainees, split into two batches of 26 each. The training provider was M/s SiMTEI, located in Deorali, Gangtok. The beneficiaries of this training were the Tamang community of Sikkim, and the venue was the Tamang (STBA) Bhawan in Shyari Deorali, Gangtok District, Sikkim.

The training duration extended from 16th April 2022 to 30th July 2022. An official valedictory was conducted on 30th July 2022. The assessment of the trainees was carried out by Helix Technology & Services, Tadong, under the State Council for Vocational Training, Sikkim.

The training concluded with a certificate of completion. The in-house training on the “Promotion of Tamang tribal Art” was successfully completed on 29th July 2022. The certificates and incentives were distributed to all 52 successful trainees during the valedictory program.

Also moments of gratitude were given to the State Institute of Capacity Building, Skill Development Department, and Social Welfare Department for offering the Tribal Arts training. Appreciation was also extended to the training partner, SiMTEI, for their coordination and efforts in conducting the training successfully.
